The Mini 2 uses a brand-new tuner IC, the R820T2 made by Rafael Micro, to provide increased sensitivity and improved SNR. This custom Nooelec SDR is a modified DVB-T USB dongle tuned for SDR usage, including upgraded crystal, capacitors and inductors compared to generic devices. Full compatibility with a large array of software packages, such as MATLAB®, HDSDR, SDR Touch, SDR#, Planeplotter--too many to list.

MathWorks® and Nooelec have coordinated to bring MATLAB® support for our SDR receivers. The RTL-SDR radio support package enables you to design wireless receivers using real world signals. Using Communications System Toolbox™ in conjunction with an RTL-SDR USB radio, you can design and prototype systems that process real-time wireless signals in MATLAB® and Simulink®

Wireless engineers, students, and hobbyists can learn to receive and decode real-world radio signals using this low cost RTL-SDR hardware connected to your computer.

These units are based on the R820 (R820T2) tuner IC made by Rafael Micro. As such, they have a frequency capability of approximately 25MHz-1750MHz, though this can vary somewhat from unit to unit. There is also an RTL2832 (RTL2832U) IC on board of course, which acts as the demodulator and USB interface.

Interested in frequencies below 25MHz? We recommend you take a look at our Ham It Up upconverter, which will let you listen all the way down to 100kHz or lower with impeccable sensitivity.

The connector type on the antenna and USB board is MCX--male MCX on the antenna, female MCX on the SDR. There are plenty of adapter and adapter cables available in our store if you want to connect your favorite antenna!

Excellent sensitivity on the air-band. Very well behaved using the SDR Sharp software. Is amazing scanner when using the Jeff Knapp Frequency Manager + Scanner v1.6.1. The Scanner user guide is excellent. Sure wish there was that quality of documentation for the SDR Sharp software. Also, wish there was NooElec schematic, block diag, and software description available, so we could understand SDR better.
Must be very careful on gain setting to not overload,because the AGC is not very capable.
NooElec could make this much more friendly by having Jeff Knapp write his style of Guide for the SDR Sharp with a concentration on what the T2 mini will do. (Posted on 5/5/2015)

I can't say I've used any of the other RTL-SDR sticks in the past; but this one has made for an excellent starter kit. Found a script online that downloaded and installed SDR# with RTL-SDR support, installed the Zadiag drivers, and was up and running with zero problems on a Win7 unit. The stick was picking up local FM and NOAA radio with ease. It's performance with the Ham-It-Up has been fantastic; picking up AM I didn't think was out there. The FM performance has been really impressive. With an upgraded 39" whip, it's pulled in FM stations most of my vintage receivers can't grab. Recently did some FM DXing with it and logged good FM Stereo with RDS 122 miles away; and that was with a 300-ohm twin-lead folded dipole in to the 1:9 balun! All the beta/alternative/experimental drivers have worked with this stick; was able to get down to around 14mhz as well as get access to the LNA and Mixer amps separately. It's responded well, it's very sensitive, and it's not given me a single problem. (Posted on 12/28/2014)

Order was processed quickly and completely. Dongle fired right up and loaded "plug and play" drivers from the web.(which have to be undone). Suggest buyers read the SDR install pdf before plugging it in. (all else fails read the directions). Loaded dll and Zadig drivers after a bout with MS security. You must be a "real" admin in XP to load drivers. Setup HDSDR after some trial and error - read the pop ups carefully. Tested in the FM broadcast band - unit is very sensitive, copies stations off the supplied whip with ease. Checked the aircraft band - can see signals popping in out around 125 mhz. Will report on the up converter shortly. Planning on adding a preamp for hf and some band pass controls on lower freqs. Overall I'm very pleased with the product and service. If you are a tinkerer and want to do a little SDR SWL work over a wide freq span - can't beat the price. Gonna put it on a ten foot dish and listen for birds out in deep space! 73 W4AUE (Posted on 12/19/2014)
