These units are custom made by NooElec to perform well for SDR, unlike the 'generic' models sold by competitors. This includes improved crystals and capacitors which assist in lowering the noise floor, increase stability and improve longevity.

We perform extensive QA on every batch sold. As with all our SDRs, we guarantee antenna protection will be present so that your new investment will not be quickly destroyed by spurious ESD. That's before we even mention our warranty and support. Yes, we're glad you found us too. Welcome home.

These units are based on the R820 (R820T) tuner IC made by Rafael Micro, which means these devices will have an approximate tuning range of 25MHz-1700MHz. There is also an RTL2832 (RTL2832U) IC on board of course, to provide basic demodulation and USB interface functionality, which allows for interfacing to a large number of popular SDR software packages, such as SDR#, HDSDR, SDR Touch, Planeplotter--too many to list, really. We're talking Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, Raspberry Pi...you'd be hard pressed to find somewhere you can't use these!

The connector type on the antenna and USB board is MCX--male MCX on the antenna, female MCX on the SDR. There are plenty of adapter and adapter cables available in our store if you want to connect your favorite antenna!

Want HF too? You can modify the dongle for HF reception, but it's really a bad way of doing things. If you would like to do this please contact us and we'll be happy to walk you through it. However, we strongly recommend you take a look at the upconverter available in the link above which will let you listen all the way down to 100kHz or lower with impeccable sensitivity.

Killer SDR.Review by w

I purchased the NooElec NESDR Nano SDR not expecting too much from it. It, however, has blown me away. It is TINY. Along with the Nano I purchased the adapter that permits me to connect it to the discone on my roof. I downloaded free software, in my instance HDSDR and DSD+, and all three are working flawlessly.
I have had the Nano plugged into my old Asus netbook running XP Home Edition for the last two days and it's not even warm. Zero frequency drifting. Zero.
I've been a scanner user most of my life. The Nano lets you hunt frequencies by SEEING them, and it's a rush unlike what you get from downloading frequencies into a physical scanner.
Does it replace a high quality scanner? No, it doesn't. But people, it's UNDER $20 and combined with the aforementioned free software, it opens up a HUGE chunk of the radio spectrum for your inspection.
There are folks out there running multiple RTL-SDRs from one plattorm and following digital trunking systems. WHAT??? For under $20 a receiver? WHAT???
Buy one. Nevermind, but two. (Posted on 8/4/2014)
This RTL SDR dongle is great with the tablet or smart phone.Review by Adam

This type of SDR dongle the way it looks would be great with the use of a table or smart phone. I use this with my tablet and it's less weight and less bulk so it will not wear out the connector. (Posted on 6/10/2014)
Tiny box BIG radio!Review by Doyle

Big radio because it has a huge receive range 24mhz to 1.74 ghz. NooElec thinks 25 mhz is the base but we seen it go down to 24mhz on both nano and mini wink wink ;-).

The nano seems to have a tad bit cleaner audio than the mini to my ears. They both are close in comparison in S/N. Depends on how good your antenna system is. Typicallty an indoor antenna will receive more noise even on a LNA. It is better to connect a outdoor antenna mounted at least 5 feet above your roof top. This will allow you to turn down the gain for stronger signals thus reducing the noise floor. The inherent noise floor is due to amplified internal noise brought on withcomputer noise in the USB bus. This is really a good receiver.

Shipping was ahead of time.

Customer Service is good because they let me bug them :-P

I have had this dongle operating for over a week now, and I have to say that the r820t is very sensitive. My main activities include noaa weather sat imaging, adsb reception, and along with a hamitup up converter HF listening. You will not be disappointed by this despite it being very inexpensive.
